Shrewsbury
Francis C. Flaherty, 77, formerly of Shrewsbury Crossing and Tampa, FL died Wednesday, Jan. 4 in the Hospice Residence of Coes Pond.
He leaves his aunt, Ruth Shea of Worcester and his extended family, Colleen Gingras of Spencer, Christine Kachodorian,Aileen Zelesky, Geraldine Shine, Justine Shea, Maureen DesRosiers, and Dennis Shea all of Worcester, Kevin Shea of Georgetown, Michael Shea of Marlborough and their families, also a cousin, James Mahoney of Haverhill. A brother, John J. Flaherty, Jr. predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of John J. and Helen (Carney) Flaherty and attended the University of Tampa.
Francis was a postal worker for 36 years in Florida and then in Worcester, retiring in 1992. After retirement he did volunteer work at UMASS Memorial Hospital. He was a life member of the Worcester Lodge of Elks.
The funeral will be held Friday, Jan. 6, from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main St. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Visiting hours are Friday, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VNA Care Network, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, 01608.
