It is with profound affection and sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Randall (Liz) at 63 years old of Needham, MA at Beth Israel Hospital on March 10, 2019. Liz succumbed to multiple complications that arose after a fall in February.
She was preceded by her mother Elizabeth MacKerron and father Russell Coker, sister Ruth Doran, Brothers Russell Coker Jr, and John Rogers. She was survived by her daughter, Veronica MacEachern, her grandson, Colin MacEachern of Norwood, MA, her long-time companion Alfred Lapera of Needham, MA, her 5 brothers, Donald Coker of North Brookfield, MA, Wayne Stuck of Londonderry, NH, Richard Coker of Norwood, MA, Frank Coker of Hyde Park, MA and Joel MacKerron of Buzzards Bay, MA, and her sister Jane Hughes of Medway, MA. Her late sister, Nephews Steve Doran of Princetown, CT, Eric Doran of Ware, NH, Reginald Walker of Atlanta, GA, Anthony MacKerron of Buzzards Bay, and niece Nichole MacKerron of Buzzards Bay, and her two aunts, Ann Livermore of Kennebunk, ME and Constance Smith of Colorado Springs, CO.
Elizabeth was born in Boston on August 14, 1955 and lived in Back Bay until she moved to Brookline. She was blessed with an exceptional memory which undoubtedly aided her in the Brookline School system where she excelled. Her early interests included art, dance, and music. She was a die hard Boston Red Sox fan.
After graduation from Brookline High School she moved to New York City where she lived with friends and attended the Elite Beauty School where she learned to cut hair and manage a shop. She worked in New York for many years before returning to Boston where she met and married Richard Randall. Randall was a base player with The Classic Tunes in the 1970s. Liz assisted Randall in many performances throughout the Boston area for several years. Liz earned the nickname “Hairdresser to the Stars” while using her skills as a hair designer with local bands prior to any publicity and album photos.
Liz drew great inspiration from her role in the creative process and always spoke fondly of working with Randall for many years with original performances at the Open Door Theatre. The Open Door staged free outdoor Theatre performances at the stage on Jamaica Pond. They worked together with all aspect of the stage such as materials, lighting, rehearsal costumes and sound music as well as the many problems that came with theatre production.
Nothing on Earth held more importance than her family and the affirmation of love for those she loved hence she was crushed by the premature death of her husband in 1991. Despite her overbearing grief she was able to channel her considerable energy on raising her only child Veronica.
In recent years, Liz was elated to learn that she was a grandmother to her grandson Colin. Colin in her estimation nothing matched time spent with Colin and Veronica which she absolutely cherished.
Never one for idleness, Liz had recently undertaken several courses of study including writing the American Indian History, guitar method for acoustic guitar and English history. Additionally she was working on the design of software for hairdressers that she hoped to patent, which would streamline shop management and allow clients to virtually view hairstyles given their unique coloring and facial shape. She was always thinking and striving. We can’t help but feel the words above are incomplete at best and are tragically premature. Our immense grief is boundless.
A memorial for Liz will be held at the Old South Church Boston (TBD). In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the American Liver Foundation or the ASPCA.
