Irene Marion (Gallagher) Maguire, 89, of New Bedford passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Care One of New Bedford. She was the wife of the late John Maguire who died in March of 2015.
Irene was born in New Bedford on November 27, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Ruth (Dufour) Gallagher McCarthy and John E. Gallagher.
Mrs. Maguire was employed by the Acushnet Company Rubber Division as an executive assistant for many years until her retirement. She was a charter, founding member of the St. Mary’s Couples Club and secretary of the New Bedford High School Reunion Committee. She was an avid reader and devoted to her family.
Survivors include a daughter, Maureen G. Maguire and her long time partner Paul Ponte of Dartmouth; a son, John “Jay” Maguire and daughter-in-law Karen of San Diego and Rancho Mirage, CA; a sister, Ruth Chasse of Fairhaven; three grandchildren, Christy Maguire of Palm Desert, CA, Lindsay Maguire of West Hollywood, CA, and Michael Maguire of Venice Beach, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
Her Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday April 23, 2019 at 11:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
