Essie Estelle Cook, 89, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, April 12, 2019, at the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia in Tifton.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Monday, April 15, 2019, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Rex Johnson and the Rev. Mike Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Cook Cemetery, Wilcox County. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Cook was born March 16, 1930, in Wilcox County, Georgia, to the late George & Sally Wilkerson. She retired from Shaw Industries as a twister operator. She was a wonderful cook and loved watching her grandchildren play ball. She enjoyed working the concession stand at softball games in Ocilla. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Anita Sweat of Fitzgerald, Linda Bostick & Terry of Tifton, Roger Cook & Lisa of Ocilla, Terry Cook of Fitzgerald, and Ruby Hodgman & Norman of Ocilla; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Cook; a daughter, Debra Cook Durden; a grandson, Eric Cook; a granddaughter-in-law: Chantal Clark Cook; two sisters, Edith Sparks and Mildred Collier; and two brothers, Junior Wilkerson and Willie Wilkerson.
