Manuel Carvalho Vilas-Boas, age 69, passed away on April 4, 2019 at Baystate Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Jan. 8, 1950 in Apúlia, Portugal, a son of the late Daniel Lopes DeSa Vilas-Boas and Gloria Maria de Jesus (Carvalho). Manuel grew up in Portugal and joined the Portuguese Navy.He settled in the United States in 1973 and returned to Portugal to marry his wife Adelia Martins (Carreira) Vilas-Boas in 1977. Manuel was the owner and operator Martin’s Bakery in Chicopee. He ran the bakery for 10 years. He was a member of the Portuguese American Club in Chicopee and was a communicant of Holy Name Parish. He is survived by his loving wife Adelia Martins (Carreira) Vilas-Boas of Chicopee; his son Felipe Carreira Vilas-Boas and his wife Megan of Norwood, MA; his daughter Carla Maria (Vilas-Boas) Forbes and her husband Bryan of East Longmeadow; his grandson Colin Daniel Forbes; one brother Artur Vilas-Boas of Portugal; 5 sisters, Arminda, Gloria, Maria Alice, Maria Helena and Virginia Vilas-Boas all of Portugal along with many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by 2 brothers Daniel and Joaquim Vilas-Boas and 1 sister, Maria Teresa Vilas-Boas. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 10:00 am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Assumption Church at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to FamilieSCN2A Foundation (www.scn2a.org), in honor of his grandson who suffers with SCN2A disorders.
