Obituary

Alice Josephine Tarbox, 81, of Fremont, NH, died January 2, 2006 at the Colonial Poplin Nursing Home in Fremont. Alice was born in Lynn, MA on December 18, 1924, the oldest child of John and Alice Dineen. She graduated from Lynn Classical High School, where she became a member of the National Honor Society. She went on to become one of the youngest cost accountants at General Electric in Lynn, MA. She married Chester O. Tarbox in 1945 and they had four children, two born in Lynn and two born after the couple to Sandown, NH. While living in Sandown, Alice was active in town affairs. She updated the local library and wrote local news for the Haverhill Gazette and the Exeter Newsletter. She was active in the Parent/Teachers Association for many years and served with the Volunteer Fire Auxiliary. She also worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a tax examiner. Alice and Chester moved to Kingston, NH where Alice became the administrative assistant to the selectman until her retirement. She most recently worked part-time in the offices of the town of Fremont, NH where she was well known for her friendly helpfulness.
Alice is survived by four daughters, Linda Healy of East Derry, NH, Kathleen Medelinskas of Nevada City, CA, Karen Rota of Kingston, NH, Donna Battis of Nottingham, NH, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one sister, Kathleen Dineen of Fridley, MN. She was predeceased by her husband Chester in 1989.
Calling hours were on Thursday, January 5, 2006 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. Funeral services were held on Friday, January 6th at 10:00am in the funeral home. The burial followed in the Center Cemetery in Sandown. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
