Faustino “Sonny” Goncalves 78, of East Bridgewater, went home to Jesus on Monday April 1st. He was surrounded by his loving family as he took his last breath.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY to Flora Goncalves Gilmette and Faustino Goncalves.
He was survived by his loving wife Carol Casieri of 46 years, four daughters, Florence Makarewicz (Ricky) of NY, Terry Michel (David) of FL., Lori Burk (Tommy) of NY, Jeannetta Roe (Herb) of NJ., three sons, John Goncalves of NY, Joe Casieri of MA and Tony Casieri (Gina) of FL, ten grandchildren, Shawn, Avdrie, Jessica, Ashley, Dino, Trevor, Johnny, Brody, Sophia and Tom and five great grandchildren, Noah, Gabriella, Aaliyah, Jeremiah and Ronin.
Anyone close to him knows of his many Brooklyn stories. He spoke many times of his time playing the piano in Carnegie Hall. Later in life he enjoyed building model ships with match sticks. He loved country music, watching westerns, wearing his favorite Red Sox hat and black t-shirts.
Sonny was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church of Whitman for over 20 years. He was very active in the church. After attending Cursio, he became active in Ultreya and Saturday morning reunion groups as well as many other church activities.
He fulfilled his calling by bringing laughter, visiting hospital patients and nursing home residences.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Thursday April 4th from 6:00-8:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Funeral services will be held on Friday April 5th at 11:00AM in the All Saints Episcopal Church, Park Ave., Whitman. A repast dinner will follow the service in the church hall.
