Russell P. Ramos, 72, of New Bedford died on March 31, 2019 at home after a long illness.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Raul N. Ramos, Jr. and Antonia "Tanya" (Gomes) Ramos, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He was formerly employed by Goodyear before retiring from Acushnet Company.
Mr. Ramos was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Ramos was a member of the Cape Verdean-American Veterans Association, the William Carney Elks Lodge and the Cape Verdean Ultramarine Band Club.
Survivors include his son, Russell P. Ramos, Jr. of Portsmouth, RI; a step-daughter, Dawn Aguiar of Newport, RI; 2 brothers, Randall Ramos and Ronald Ramos and his wife Cheryl, all of New Bedford; 3 sisters, Renay Ribeiro, Raulene Mendes-Martin and Priscilla DeBarros and her husband Nelson, all of New Bedford; a brother-in-law, Barry Mendes of Randolph, MA; his Godfather, Manuel Figueiredo of New Bedford; his Godchildren, Amanda Dershem, Nikki Ramos and Katelyn Cohen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Raul "Butch" Ramos, Ross Ramos and Regina "Gina" Mendes and brother-in-law of the late Roger Martin.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday, April 6th at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday, April 5th from 4-8 PM.
