DELROSE A MOWATT, August 18, 1940 - March 27, 2019
Delrose Mowatt, age 78, passed quietly on March 27, 2019 at her home in Augusta, GA. Delrose was born August 18,1940 in St. Ann, Jamaica to Hilda May Lynch.
Delrose or Mema, as the grandchildren called her, was a generous, considerate, trustworthy and quick-witted mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. An amazing cook, no one ever left her house wanting food. She thoroughly enjoyed raising her children. She mentioned often that some of her best memories were the times she spent at their swimming lessons and swim meets as they travelled New England. She also liked to take them to the Boston Commons most weekends in the summer, enjoying concerts, cooling off in the sprinklers, and riding the swan boats. In addition to raising four children she was an active volunteer at Dorchester Temple Baptist Church where the family attended and she served as church secretary and Sunday school craft teacher in the early 1980’s. She graduated from Curry College with a BS in Nursing, and worked as an RN with several nursing homes around Boston. In 2007 she moved to Augusta, GA and worked there until she retired in 2012. One of her favorite past-times was gardening. She maintained a beautiful and active vegetable garden at her home in Augusta.
Delrose is survived in loving memory by her sister, Thelma Jean Douglas; son, Terrence Mowatt Jr. daughters, Leonola McClure (Cory), Melody Mowatt and Melissa Carrington (Ernest); 10 grandchildren, Andrew Mowatt, Jakory Mowatt, Brandon Mowatt, Stephen Mowatt, Asia Mowatt, Myah Wilson, Syenna Walrond, CJ McClure, Benjamin McClure, Elias Carrington, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
There will be a visitation period followed by a service at Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home located at 1803 Centre Street, West Roxbury, MA 02132 on Friday at 11:00 am, followed by the burial at Mt Benedict Cemetery.
