Obituary

Dominic G. Saia passed away peacefully at home on Saturday in the company of his loved ones. He was 93. Born in Augusta, Sicily the son of the late Sebastiano and Maria (Intagliata) Saia. He came to America in October 1931 at Ellis Island where is name is proudly listed on the wall of immigrants. He lost his father six months later from influenza. Dominic went to work at an early age selling newspapers, shining shoes, selling lemons and flowers in bar rooms around Scollay Sq. and the West End of Boston. He later sold produce on his father’s pushcarts at Haymarket Square. Dom owned several produce and flower businesses during his career. He later became produce buyer and manager at the Broadway Supermarket in Cambridge from where he retired. Dom proudly served in the Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He loved John Wane and enjoyed watching his movies. Dom lived a colorful life, entertaining his family and friends with his adventures. He was a strong man with a big heart, always ready to help anyone in need. He was much loved and will be missed but never forgotten.

The beloved husband of Susan M. Saia, he was a devoted father to James A. Saia and his wife Rosalie of Bourne, Mary Joan Wright and her husband Mark of Arlington. Dom was a loving grandfather to Joyce Saia and Gina Seleb and her husband Jack as well as a loving great-grandfather of James and Kaden Bryant. The dear brother of George Tringale and his wife Mary, James Tringali and his wife Maureen, all of Stoneham, Phil Tringale of Wakefield, Carmela Nardone of Watertown and the late Josephine Corsetti, he is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and long-time friends.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford Thursday, April 4th at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford, at 11 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit at the funeral home, Wednesday 4 – 8 PM.
