Ruby J. Gibbs, 87, of Ben Hill County, Georgia, died Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Monday, April 1, 2019, at Salem Baptist Church in Ben Hill County, with the Rev. Tommy Land, Jr., the Rev. Bill Tracy, and the Rev. Roy Gibbs officiating. Nancy Gibbs will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary on Monday.
Mrs. Gibbs was born October 26, 1931, in Crisp County, Georgia, to the late W.C. & Inez Griffin Selph. She was a 1947 graduate of East Crisp School. She worked as a seamstress for H.R. Kaminsky & Sons and Fitzgerald Underwear. Mrs. Gibbs was a homemaker and loved canning and freezing fruits and vegetables grown by her husband. She was active in the PTA and was a grade mother when her children were in school. She was also a member of the Homemakers Club. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a long-time active member of Salem Baptist Church, having taught the Evelyn Clements Sunday school class, worked with the GAs, and served in the WMU.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley & Gary Gaines of Ben Hill County; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Roy & Nancy Gibbs of Cordele; grandchildren: Ronald & Kay Huckaby of Statesboro, Rhonda & Tracy Paulk of Ocilla, Brad & Amy Gibbs of Atlanta, Chad & Lucy Gibbs of Brooks, and Becky & Brian Galyean of Gainesville; great-grandchildren: Hannah Gibbs, Katelyn Gibbs, Kristen Paulk, Rebecca Paulk, Halle Galyean, Brody Galyean, Ford Calvin Gibbs, Travis Mangelinks, Noel Burn, and Caleb Roy Gibbs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Gibbs; two great-grandchildren: Joey Huckaby and Claire Gibbs; and a sister, Maggie Lou Fields.
