Obituary

CHICOPEE ~ Leo R. Belisle, 93, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, January 20, 2019. He passed into Eternal Life at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family, his wonderful caregivers and his comrades-at-arms. He was born in Holyoke on July 27, 1925, a beloved son of the late Emile and Wilhelmine (Cote) Belisle. He was raised in the Flats section of Holyoke and moved to Aldenville around 1947. He served his country during World War II in the United States Marine Corps and attained the rank of Corporal. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Area and participated in action against the enemy at Peleliu. Following his military service, he returned to Holyoke and was employed at the former Springfield Armory. He later worked at the former A. G. Spalding Company in the Willimansett section of Chicopee and then worked as a Mechanical Engineer in Research and Development at the former Tambrands Company in the Three Rivers Village of Palmer. Most of all, he was a quiet man who provided for his wife and family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and soul mate, Marcella M. (Page) Belisle who was Called Home on May 3, 2013. They were married on April 22, 1947 at the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 66 years of happiness together. He leaves his nine loving children, Raymond P. Belisle and his wife, Patricia, of Middletown, OH, Dr. Robert J. Belisle and his wife, Cecile, of Milford, OH, Suzanne M. Methe and her husband, Michael, of Chicopee, Janette L. Barrett and her husband, Robert, of Chicopee, Diane M. Van Camp of Gloucester, Denise A. Tobin and her husband, Todd, of Hampden, Anne-Marie Benjamin and her husband, Adam, of Portland, OR, Roger Belisle of Ellington, CT and John Belisle and his wife, Nelly, of Italy and Chicopee; his 17 cherished grandchildren; his 14 cherished great-grandchildren; his two dear sisters-in-law, Maddy Belisle of Agawam and Katie Belisle of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Belisle and Page families. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his beloved son, Richard L. Belisle who was Called Home on July 22, 1978; and his four dear brothers, Rene, Harvey, Sylvio and Gerard Belisle. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial with United States Marine Corps Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
