Obituary

Horace L. Huyler, 94, of Westport, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at home. He was the husband of the late Gladys E. (Nichols) Huyler.

Mr. Huyler was born in Boston, son of the late George E. and Pearl E. (Sherard) Huyler and had resided in Westport since 1970. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. He had worked as a fork lift operator for the former Northern Terminal, Inc. in Cambridge and retired in 1988 from the Westport Elementary school where he was head custodian. Mr. Huyler was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 9059 of Dartmouth and a life member of the former Nickerson Post 118 D.A.V. of Westport. He was a member of the Noquochoke Lodge A.F. & A.M. and the Cortez Allen Chapter 161 O.E.S., both of Westport. He also belonged to the Scottish Rites-Valley of Fall River and the Palestine Shriners of Providence. He was a practice goalie for the Boston Bruins and Boston Olympics and also played goalie for the Navy Armed Guard.

Survivors include his son: Charles E. Huyler and his wife Eleanor of Westport; his 3 daughters: Evelyn A. Crandall of CA, Joanne E. Collier of Westport and Barbara A. Majndle of Westport; 15 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Philip L. Huyler and brother of the late Gladys Redgrift, George Huyler and John Huyler.

Masonic service and Order of the Eastern Star service, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Friday, March 29, 2019 at the Potter Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 5-7 P.M.

Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Noquochoke Lodge A.F. & A.M., 305 Hix Bridge Rd., Westport , MA 02790.
