Tenpa Shungpadongchen, a longtime Somerville resident, died on Saturday March 23, in Medford. Born in Shungpa, Tibet, he was the son of the late Dorjee Damdal and Lhamo Tsering. Tenpa left Tibet in 1959, traveling first to India before moving to the U.S. in 1993, where he worked as a security officer.
Tenpa was the beloved husband of Lobsang Chodon, and the devoted father of Tashi Phuntsok, Sonam Palzom, Kunsang Gyaltsen, Dekey Sangmo, Tenzin Phuntsok, Chime Sangmo and Tsering Yangkey. He was the loving grandfather of nine, and the dear brother of Dolma Bhuti and the late Phuntsok, Samdup and Lhakpa Tsering. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Monday, March 25 beginning at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Crematory services will be private.
