Herman L. Batten, 70, of Tifton passed away Monday, March 18, 2019, at his residence. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Batten at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2019, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe and the Rev. Phillip Smith officiating. Mr. Batten will be laid to rest at a later date.
Born April 15, 1948 in Coffee County, Mr. Batten was the son of the late Elisha Batten and Myrle Baker Batten. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Walter Batten, Marie Batten White, Ralph Batten and Aubrey Batten. He was a licensed land surveyor for the Coastal Plains Experiment Station and the Rural Development Center in Tifton.
Mr. Batten is survived by his wife, Laverne Batten of Tifton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Michelle Batten of Tifton and Kenneth and Kristi Batten of Lee County; one brother, Clinton Batten of Pearson; one sister, Mildred B. Deen of St. Mary’s; and three grandchildren, Krysten Batten, Bryce Batten and Shane.
