Obituary

Joyce Barnes McAnally, 75, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, March 17, 2019, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dewain Joiner, the Rev. Joshua Bowles, and Minister Teressa McDuffie officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. McAnally was born October 20, 1943, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late William “Snooks” & Magdalene Wheelis Barnes. She earned several certifications from the technical school including accounting, medical transcription, and nail technician. She worked as a supply clerk for Modern Fibers in Fitzgerald as well as Shaw Industries and West Point in Tifton. Mrs. McAnally was a receptionist for Dr. Green’s practice also. For many years, she supervised food service in several local jails for Valley Food Service at Adel, Fitzgerald, Nashville, and Ocilla. She had a gift of hospitality and enjoyed taking care of others. She was always providing for those in need. She loved her family dearly and had a wonderful sense of humor. She participated in skits at church and loved to entertain. Many will remember visiting Joyce’s Pour House to craft ceramics. She was a member of the Ocilla Church of God and had served as President of the Ladies Ministry.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, John McAnally of Fitzgerald; children and their spouses: John William Keen of Fitzgerald, Gregory Keen & Kimberly of Ocilla, and April McAnally Phillips & Lee of Irwinville; grandchildren: Whitney Smith, Alli Tootle & Adam, Luke Keen, Olivia Phillips, and Bear Phillips; a great-granddaughter, Ansli Smith; and a sister-in-law, Margot Barnes of Fitzgerald. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Barnes.
