Benton Otto Rodgers, 74, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at his residence in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Monday, March 18, 2019, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, with the Rev. Max Rodgers, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the family residence Sunday at 3 PM.
Mr. Rodgers was born August 9, 1944, in Fitzgerald, Georgia to the late Othar Lee Rodgers and Ethel Mae Morris. He was a police officer for the Cordele Police department for 36 years. Mr. Rodgers was a working man who loved to stay busy. He loved his grandkids and family gatherings. He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Arbor Baptist Church.
He is survived by his children, Wanda Rodgers Fry of Fitzgerald and Wayne Rodgers of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Chelsea Rodgers & Justin Hasty, Benton Bradley Rodgers, Gabby Waters, Emily Jade Hattaway & John Howerton, Keagan Wayne Rodgers & Ashley Thomas, Jessica Lynne Burnett & David Debose, and Joseph Othar Rodgers & Amy; great-grandchildren, Kirstien Amerine, Landon Larue Hasty, Adam Lee Rodgers, Karissa Mae Burnette, Chloe Cheyenne Jaberg, Joseph Othar Rodgers, Jr., Baylee Brook Rodgers, Lilly and Lyra Rodgers, Kyligh Rodgers, Aubree Madison Pope, Laylan Marie Hasty, Skyla Hope Hasty, Stormi Howerton, Charlie Waters, Rayonna Vanskiver and Izzy Gomez; siblings, Glenn Franklin Rodgers of Jacksonville, Florida, Francis Valiante of Jacksonville, Florida, Barbara Nalley & Hank of Gulfport Mississippi, and Max Rodgers, Sr. & Rachel of Pineview. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, James Rodgers, Don Rodgers, and Jean Gilliard.
