Esteban Veliz, age 70 of Mabton, entered into rest on March 10, 2019 at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. He was born on October 22, 1948 to Ramiro and Petra (Ruelas) Veliz in Edinburg, Texas where he was raised and educated. In 1963, the family moved to Mabton. He enlisted in the US Army and served in Viet Nam from 1968 to 1970. He attended Yakima Valley Community College where he earned his GED and worked as a vineyard foreman until getting an AA Degree. He then worked in Grandview at the Farm Workers Clinic as a Chemical Dependency Counselor for three years until becoming disabled due to illness.
Esteban was a member of the Grandview VFW. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool, “taking care of his plants” and spending time with his many cousins and friends. He was baptized at the Nazarene Church in Grandview. He had an amazing heart and was always willing to help others. He was known as “Piranha” by many because of his ability to eat anything and everything in site.
Esteban is survived by his wife, Morgan Veliz of Mabton; his children, Stephanie Barrera (Domingo) of Prosser, Steven Veliz (Melanie) of Colorado Springs, Joey Veliz of Nampa, Idaho and Danielle Veliz of Yakima; sisters, Rosalinda Cavazos (Tony) of Grandview and Micaela Visser (Fred) Scottsdale, Arizona; grandchildren, Destiny, Anadelia and Kaleb Barrera and Aubrey Veliz; and great-grandson, Achilles Stigall.
He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Delia Veliz.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, March 14, 2019 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Prosser Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, March 15, also at Prosser Funeral Home. Inurnment, with Full Military Honors will follow at 2:00 PM at the Grandview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Danielle Veliz or Joey Veliz college funds c/o Prosser Funeral Home.
