Springfield, MA – Barbara (Fisher) Pedersen, 81, of Springfield, MA passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, March 7th with her family by her side.
Barbara was married for 60 years to her loving husband, Colonel (Ret.) Edward R. Pedersen. She is also survived by her two sons, Colonel (Ret.) Robert C. Pedersen M.D. and his wife, Colonel (Ret.) Anita M. Pedersen M.D. of Kailua, HI, and Scott C. Pedersen and his wife, Traci A. W. Pedersen of Lyndeborough, NH; a daughter, Kirsten P. Dillaire and her husband, Bruce W. Dillaire of Worcester, MA; a sister, Lois F. Curtis and her husband, George P. Curtis Jr. of Ansonia, CT; a sister-in-law, Sybil K. Fisher of Atlanta, GA; 8 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Pedersen was born in Derby, CT, daughter of the late Gustave and Hildegard (Mueller) Fisher and is also predeceased by a brother Paul D. Fisher.
After graduating from Quinnipiac University with an associate’s degree in 1956, Barbara went to work in the medical field for many years until she chose to be a homemaker and raise her children while moving to various military assignments around the world. Barbara always cherished the time she was able to spend with her family.
Mrs. Pedersen had a talent for sewing, quilting, knitting, gardening, and cooking. She made friends easily with her infectious smile and sense of humor. In later years, Barbara continued her active lifestyle meeting her friends at the gym.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 12th at 2 PM at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street Winchendon, MA. Memorial contributions in memory of Barbara may be made to Beacon Hospice 815 Worcester Street Springfield, MA 01151.
