Dr. Marie A. Chesnick, of Wilmington formerly of Callicoon, NY passed away at her home unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 5, 2019. She was 63 years of age. Born in Callicoon, New York she was the beloved daughter of the late Benedict and Nancy (Tornich) Chesnick.
Marie was raised and educated in Callicoon, NY. She attended the Delaware Valley Central School in Callicoon. She went on to complete her undergraduate studies at Buffalo State College and received her Master’s Degree from Emerson College. Marie received her Doctorate from Boston University in Speech and Language Pathology. While she was affiliated with Boston University she was involved with multiple research projects and published articles under and along with her mentor and longtime friend, Jackie Liebergott. For the past 25 years Marie has worked at the Marshall Simonds Middle School in Burlington as a Speech and Language Pathologist where she was well respected by both faculty and students. Marie was also active for the past few years as a member of the Order of Sons of Italy in Wilmington. In her leisure time she enjoyed making quilts, had a fondness for cats and moose and cherished spending time traveling with her friends and family.
In addition to her late parents, Marie is sadly predeceased by her sister, Joan Chesnick. She is survived by her devoted sister, Carol Tunison and her husband Robin of Ithaca, NY. She was the cherished aunt of Jaime Tunison and Jessie Tunison, both of Ithaca, NY.
Funeral services will be held from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 374 Main St., WILMINGTON, Monday, March 11th, at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington, at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
