Frances A. (Ciccarello) Caruso, of Somerville, formerly of East Boston, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 7, 2019, at the de Rham Hospice House. She was 97 years old. Born in Brighton, she was the daughter of the late Francesco and Angelina (Vena) Ciccarello. Frances was a community activist in Somerville and a recipient of several community awards.
Frances loved to spend time with her family and had the deepest love for her children and grandchildren; taking care of them and making them all happy was her main goal in life, in which she succeeded on every level.
Her hobbies included cooking & baking her famous dishes of homemade sauce, braciole, muffins, cakes and cookies; traveling which included Italy, France, England, and across the United States to visit family; storytelling where she was always quick with a joke; and reading non-fiction to stay current and fiction which she viewed as “dreaming while wide awake". Frances was also a gifted writer of poetry and an avid Facebook user.
Frances was the beloved wife of the late John F. Caruso. She was the devoted mother of John F. Caruso, Jr and his partner Andrea, Robert F. Caruso and wife Cindy, David J. Caruso, AnnMarie Powell, Joan C. Landy and her late husband Morton, Frank S. Caruso and his partner Helen, Stephanie V. Saloman and her husband Peter, and Paul J. Caruso and his wife Sharon. She was the loving Nana of Caira, Addie, Lauren, Rachel and Michael, and the dear sister of the late Mary Ciccarello. She is also survived by many other loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Saturday, March 16th at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Benedict Church, 21 Hathorn St., Somerville, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday from 4-8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
