The son of the late John and Irene Lowney, brother of deceased sister Noreen and brother Daniel, John leaves his wife, Daune, children Sal, Loran and John Paul III; grandchildren Charton, James and Luke whom referred to him as “Pampy” as well as sisters Eileen, Pauline, Jane and Annie; brothers Timothy and James; his best friends, Charles Edward Carpenter III and Michael Robert Dufresne; and departed godfather Aelred “Ted” Lowney and living godmother Shirley “MacLeod” Lowney. Extended family includes many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews too numerous to mention, but he loved them all dearly.
John was a lifelong Southcoast resident and 1973 graduate of New Bedford High School. His career included scalloping for three years, long-haul truck driving for 15 years plus 30 years as an Electric Lineman with Eversource Energy before retiring on February 1, 2017. John was also a Mason of the 3rd Degree.
Captain of his sailing vessel, Bye Bye Blues, John was happiest cruising coastal waters with family and friend crew members. We thank John for his steady hand at the helm safely charting a course of memorable good times. Full of life and so giving, John was dedicated to his family.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Southcoast VNA for their care and compassion shown to John during his illness.
