Robert E. "Bob" Francis, 73, of Acushnet died Monday, March 4, 2019 at home after a long battle with lung cancer. He was the husband of Cynthia (Vaughan) Francis.
Born in Acushnet, son of the late Edward and Emily (Rose) Francis, he was raised in New Bedford and had lived in Acushnet since 1970.
He was a graduate of Johnson & Wales University with an Associate of Science in Data Processing, Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems, and Bridgewater State University with a Master of Educational Administration.
Mr. Francis was formerly employed as a teacher at New Bedford High School for 32 years until his retirement in 2003. In retirement, he was employed at H&R Block. He also served as the Acushnet Town Moderator for over 30 years.
He was a member of Massachusetts Moderators Association, National Notary Association, Massachusetts Teachers Association, New Bedford Educators Association, Bristol County Educators Association, National Rifle Association, American Legion Post 0265 and VFW Post 7239.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; two children, Stephen Francis and his wife Susanne of Kernersville, NC and Sherry Medeiros and her husband Frank of New Bedford; two grandchildren, Daniel Francis and Michael Medeiros; his siblings, Donald Francis and his wife Rosemarie of Acushnet and Edna Simas of New Bedford; his mother-in-law, Edna Howland of Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 8, 2019 at 10 AM at the First Congregational Church at Lunds Corner. Burial will follow in Acushnet Cemetery.
