CHICOPEE ~ Gisele H. “Chi Chi” (Turgeon) Zygarowski Bernier, 93, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, March 1, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Saint Zenon de Piopolis, Province of Quebec, Canada on March 31, 1925, a beloved daughter of the late Rosaire J. and Bernadette M. (Gravel) Turgeon. At the young age of six months, her parents moved to Holyoke where they lived for many years. Gisele later lived in South Hadley before moving to Chicopee where she lived for many years. She was a graduate of the former Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Holyoke. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Fairview. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection. She was predeceased by her two loving husbands, Joseph S. Zygarowski who was Called Home on January 28, 1972 and Martin J. Bernier who was Called Home on April 1, 2013. She was also predeceased by her five loving brothers, Adolphe, Palmer, Lucien, Ralph and Roger Turgeon; and her two loving sisters, Gabrielle Hennessey and Cecile Hooper. She leaves her four loving children, Chicopee City Councilor Robert Zygarowski and his wife, Patricia, of Chicopee, Diane Obszanski and her husband, Paul, of Palm Coast, FL, Christine Zygarowski of Littleton, CO and Joseph Zygarowski and his wife, Kim, of Gainesville, GA; her eight cherished grandchildren, Ryan Zygarowski and his partner, Laura Morris, Sean Zygarowski and his wife, Jennifer, Robert Zygarowski and his wife, Jody, Gina Zygarowski, Michelle Zygarowski, Kimberly Goldsmith, Lisa Finger and her husband, Kenneth, and Annie Robertson; her many cherished great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her loving brother, Joseph R. Turgeon and his wife, Dottie, of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Bernier, Zygarowski and Turgeon families. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 beginning at 8:30 a.m. from the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 8, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
