Attorney John Grother Miles, 78, of Nanumett Shores, Onset, died on December 27, 2005 at Tobey Hospital after a long illness.
He was the devoted son of the late Judge Frankland W. L. Miles and the late Louise Grother Miles.
An avid student,he attended many universities including Juliard School of Music, Harvard Divinity School, Boston University, Massachusetts Maritime Academy (May ‘47), and Suffolk University Law School.
Atty. Miles practiced law with his brother and late father at Miles and Miles, Counselors at Law in Boston and Plymouth. He recently received the Plymouth District Courthouse’s first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award. He retired from practicing law earlier this year.
Atty. Miles was named Permanent Class President at Boston University, past president of Massachusetts Maritime Academy Alumni Association, past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, permanent honorary second Vice-President of the Spotlighter’s Club, and faithful member of the Wareham Elks and Stoughton Masons.
A gifted trumpeter, singer, and performer, he was in show business for a great portion of his life. He was a member and honorary Second Vice-President of the American Guild of Variety Artists.
Survivors include his daughters Penniman W. Wells, Stephanie Miles Cataldo, Victoria Miles Swan, Jennifer Grother Vetree and Betsy Ross Miles; his grandchildren Cameron Louise Wells, Tucker Wells, Nicholas Miles Cataldo, Gabrielle Louise Cataldo and Owen F. Vetree; and his brother Atty. Frankland W. L. Miles, Jr.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 30th at 10:30 AM in Blynn Hall on the campus of Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 101 Academy Drive, Buzzards Bay. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
