Obituary


George E. Cain, age 83, a lifelong Woburn resident passed away peacefully February 27, 2019, at the Woodbriar of Wilmington Nursing Facility following a period of declining health. George was the beloved husband of Marion E. (Emery) Cain and together they shared nearly 58 years of marriage. Born in Woburn, George was the son of the late George and Mary (McDonough) Cain.

George was a 1953 Woburn High School graduate where he was a three sport student athlete playing Football, Basketball and Baseball. He went on to attend Boston College where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics. Prior to his retirement, George worked for many years in the Banking Division for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. George loved all levels of sports, whether it was Boston's professional teams, Woburn sports or his beloved Boston College Eagles. He was always up to date on what was going on in the sports world. George loved Woburn and spending time with his friends. He could always be found attending local sporting events, especially any game that his children and more recently his grandchildren were participating in. In years past he enjoyed coaching his grandsons in Babe Ruth Baseball. He also worked for many years as a high school referee in both basketball and football. George was a former member of the Winchester Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his wife Marion, George is survived by his children; Mark Cain and his wife Mary of Woburn, Carolyn Wells and her husband Ernie of Woburn, Nancy Brosnan and husband Patrick of Woburn, Susan Lucy of North Andover, George Cain and wife Diane of Woburn. He is also survived by thirteen loving grandchildren. Brother of Mary Murphy and her husband Ted of Haverhill and the cherished cousin of Maureen McGann of Woburn.

Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Tuesday, March 5th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Winchester. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in George's memory to the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn, 1 Charles Gardner Lane, Woburn, MA 01801.
