Rudine Nipper Thompson, 80, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, March 2, 2019, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Earlie Holt officiating and Deanna Thompson delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Thompson was born September 7, 1938, Douglas, Georgia, to the late Jack & Beatrice Nipper. She lived in the community all of her life and was an x-ray technician. Mrs. Thompson enjoyed stock-car racing, fishing, watching the Braves and frying chicken. She was crowned the Fried Chicken Queen at one time. She loved her family and enjoyed hosting them and was more than a mother, she was a great friend, caretaker and the matriarch of her family. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Christian Tabernacle.
She is survived by her children: Elizabeth Haney & Jimmy of Fitzgerald, Edward Thompson & Vicki of Fitzgerald and Dwight Thompson & Linda of Fitzgerald; a daughter-in-law, Gina Thompson McClelland; grandkids: Deanna Thompson, Brandie Thompson, Eddie Thompson, Lavenda Jones, Michael Thompson, Josh Sumner, Garrett Burch, Katie Merritt, Callie Merritt and Rylea Merritt; 20 great-grandkids and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Dwight Thompson, a son, George Leonard Thompson, brother, Billy Nipper and a sister, Imagene Zanders.
