Obituary

Hord, James W. “Jimmy” of West Roxbury formerly of San Francisco, CA Feb. 21, 2019. Beloved son of James E and Alice Hord of San Leandro, CA. Loving brother of Candy and her husband Jay Miller of San Lorenzo, CA. Devoted uncle of Cherish Jiminez of Brentwood, CA and Jayson Miller of Martinez, CA. Loving companion of James Tooley, Jr. of Dorchester. Also survived by his loving friends and colleagues in the Hotel Industry on both the East and West Coast. A Celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held on Saturday March 16th from 1pm – 4pm at the Kimpton Marlowe Hotel 25 Edwin H. Land Blvd. Cambridge, MA. All are welcome to attend.

Jimmy was born and grew up in San Leandro, CA. At the age of 17, Jimmy moved to San Francisco and took a job as "Sandy the Sea Lion" on Fisherman's Wharf. Later he traveled with Eddie Fisher and Band as their Road Manager.
Throughout the 1980's, Jimmy became Michael Garret's resident lightrman at the I-Beam in San Francisco, and also joined the Trocadero and DV8 nightclubs. Jimmy was asked to turn his creative talents into lighting designs for many of the Galleria and Gift Center parties.
In 1990, Jimmy joined Kimpton Hotels and became the Front Office Manager at the Tuscan Inn until 1999, was promoted to General Manager for the Prescott Hotel from 1999 to 2003, and Hotel Monaco
from 2003 to 2006. Jimmy was named Kimpton Hotels General Manager of the Year in 2000. He received the "Most Gracious Host Award" in 2002 and again in 2006.
Jimmy was so very much involved in his community. In 2002, he received the "Making a Difference" Community Service Award by Glide Memorial Church. On February 27,2004, Mayor Gavin Newsom presented Jimmy with a Mayoral Proclamation 'Jimmy Hord Day' in San Francisco for dedicating himself to providing the highest level of customer service in the City.
In 2006, Jimmy moved to Boston, where he became the GM of the Nine Zero Hotel until 2013. He remained local to Massachusetts moving from Jamaica Plain to West Roxbury. He was proud to call Boston his home.
Jimmy had a great love for all things Bay Area and was quite the historian. Jimmy had a vast antique clock and art collection. His enthusiasm for service and hospitality was unparalleled, and he provided mentorship and guidance to aspiring hoteliers. He was a world traveler, risk taker, and loved exploring
new terrain with family and friends. Jimmy's passion for life, his bright smile and wicked sense of humor
will be greatly missed.
