(1929 - 2019)
Louise Naomi (Borg) Bergmann was born the first of five children to the Reverend Raymond and Helen (Seastrand) Borg of Valley City, North Dakota, October 10, 1929. Louise graduated from Hudson High School, Hudson, Wisconsin, in 1947. Following family loyalties, she graduated from Gustavas Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minnesota, in 1951, majoring in music education. She was in the college choir during those college years. Music was her specialty and love for all of her life.
After college, Louise taught high school English and music for several years at Worthington, Minnesota. That was followed by teaching several years in the school music program of Hopkins, Minnesota.
Deciding to get a Master's degree in music, she moved to New York City and attended the teachers College at Columbia University. She loved New York City. made life-long friends there and considered New York her 'home' more than any other city before or after her years there.
Louise was hired by the Silver Burdett Publishing Company to teach music education to teachers using the instruction materials of Silver Burdett. Provided with a company car, she traveled to many cities and states as a representative and trainer for the company. Together with a co-worker, they rented a lovely high rise apartment near Central Park West. Silver Burdett was later purchased by the Time-Warner Corporation.
At a Lutheran church in Washington D.C., she met Air Force Major Kenneth Bergmann. They married on September 6, 1970, in NEw York City, with parents, brother Dan, and sisterMiriam in the wedding party.
Kenneth retired from the Air Force and sought another career. They traveled around the states with a trailer house in tow, visiting places, family, and friends. Kenn decided to attend Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, California, and become a Lutheran minister. They rented an apartment in Alameda, California, for those seminary years.
After Kenn's ordination into the Lutheran ministry, they moved to his first parish in Carson City, Nevada, where Louise applied her skills to playing the piano and directing the church choir. After a number of years in Carson City, they moved to his next and final parish in Oxnard, California, where, again, Louise accompanied the congregation piano and directed the choir at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. For many years, Louise enjoyed accompanying the songs at regular Rotary Club meetings.Louise was a long-time active member of the Ventura County Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, a national organization in which her mother was also a member. She was an active committee member until her death. Louise was often a temporary and substitute organist for numerous churches in the area after Kenn retired. After Kenn's retirement, they became active members of Ascension Lutheran Church, Thousands Oaks, California, and together served on the organ committee. After Kenn's death, Louise worshipped regularly at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Oxnard, and continued living in their home in Oxnard.
Louise died on February 26, 2019, from congestive heart failure, and will be greatly missed by family friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenn, and brother. David.
