Elder Charles William Tyson, Sr., 84, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia in Tifton. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Elder Herman Griffin, Elder Jim Sandlin and Elder Thad Marshall officiating. Elder Tyson will be laid to rest at Old Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Irwin County on Saturday afternoon with Elder Robert Tucker, Elder Herman Griffin and Elder John Hancock officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Old Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County and the members of Damascus Primitive Baptist Church in Bacon County.
Born May 11, 1934 in Tift County, Mr. Tyson was the son of the late Raymond Harold Tyson and Lena Mae Wynn Tyson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Walraven Tyson; and one brother, Harold Ray Tyson. Before retiring, he was a farmer and a long-time Primitive Baptist Elder. He enjoyed substitute teaching in Tift County School and he was a member of Old Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County.
Mr. Tyson is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Charles William “Chuck” Tyson, Jr. of Athens and Mitchell Ray “Mitch” and Robbin Tyson of Tifton; three sisters, Maxine Franks of Tifton, Ruth McMillan of Enigma and Margaret Willis of Tifton; two brothers, Bill Tyson of Snellville and Art Tyson of Sharpsburg; two grandchildren, Mindy Michelle Tyson and Austin Ray Tyson; and two great-grandchildren, Kinsley Rae Woodall and Emery Christine Woodall.
