James L. "Jimmy" Grubb, Sr., of Billerica, formerly of Medford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 24. Born in Milford Center, Ohio, he was the son of the late Paul E. and Mildred (Overacker) Grubb. Jimmy proudly served in the Navy during the Korean War on board the Kenneth D. Bailey (DD713) from 1948-1952. He later worked for the Boston Naval Shipyard and moved on to work for H.C. Burke receiving many commendations. Jimmy joined Boston Edison in the early seventies as a maintenance supervisor working up to an outage coordinator in management before retiring in 1994. He was very proud of his work, enjoyed golfing, cooking and spending time with family. Jimmy was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and he never missed watching a game!
Jimmy was the devoted father of retired Medford police Detective Sergeant James Jr. and his wife Kim, Don and his wife Linda, all of Medford, Richard of West Yarmouth, Todd of Reading, Paul and his wife Lynne of Billerica, Jeff of Boston, and Tiffany Dawson and her husband James of Billerica. He was the loving grandfather (Papa) of Todd Grubb, Heather McLaughlin, Meghan Hoffman, Medford police Patrolman James Grubb III, Liam, Rory and Nolan Dawson, Cameron, Gillian, Jayla and Paul Grubb. Jimmy was the loving great grandfather of six, the dear brother of Priscilla Lyons of Christiansburg, Ohio and the late Paul Grubb, and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Sunday, March 3 at 3 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with family from noon to 3 PM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Jimmy's name to Care Dimensions Hospice House, 125 Winter St, Lincoln, MA 01773, or to the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital (Bedford VA).
