Mary C. (Ryan) Dowling, a 4 year resident of Stoughton and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at her home in Stoughton. She was 76 years old.
Mary was born in Boston on February 19, 1943, a daughter of the late Phillip J. Ryan and Joanna T. (Dunne) Ryan. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated at St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Cardinal Cushing High School in South Boston. Mary enlisted into the United States Army on October 11, 1963 and served her country with honor and courage during the Vietnam Conflict. She was honorably discharged on June 25, 1964. Mary worked as a Bookkeeper for Serta Mattress for several years and she dedicated herself to the children of Charlestown for over 22 years where she operated her own day care .
Mary is the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Dowling. She is the devoted mother of Garnet Shields of Stoughton. She is the loving Grandma to Stephanie Melo and her husband Jorge, Mark Carvalho and Joshua Carvalho and her great-grandchildren Isabella Ferrara, Mason Melo and Zachary Melo. She is the beloved sister of Joanna Giordano, John Ryan and the late Catherine Settipani, Thomas Ryan, Joseph Ryan and Jerome Ryan. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Mary's Life on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 4 to 7 P.M. with her Funeral Service at 6:30 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Her burial will be private.
