Donald Vasconcelles, 79, of New Bedford died Thursday, February 21, 2019 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Judith M. (Brown) Vasconcelles.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Manuel and Bernandina (Rose) Vasconcelles, he lived in Freetown for 45 years before moving back to New Bedford.
Donald was employed by Amtrak as a train dispatcher for many years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Fall River Rod and Gun Club.
Donald enjoyed bowling, traveling and eating coffee ice cream. He also enjoyed Christmas and he and his wife had won awards for their Christmas displays.
He is survived by two daughters, Michelle Abreu and her husband Adam and Susan Durivage and her wife Mary Fran; a son, Kenneth Camacho and his wife Dusty; and five grandchildren, Paige and Adam "AJ" Abreu, Crystal Giammalvo, and Zachary and Cassandra Camacho.
He was predeceased by his son, David Camacho and his granddaughter, Shaylene Camacho.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, February 25, 2019 from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will be held at a later date in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
