Adelino Rosario Joao, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2019, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness. He was born in Fonte Santa, Alcobaca, Portugal, a son of the late Francisco and Ana (Rosario) Joao. He emigrated to the United States in 1976, along with his loving wife and four children. He worked as a construction worker for various companies, retiring from Mather Construction. He was a member of the Chicopee Portuguese American Club and a fan of the Sporting Portuguese Soccer Club. Since he retired, he enjoyed and looked forward to spend his summers in Portugal, planting his garden, attending the Hadley Flea Market on Sundays and making his wine. He leaves his loving wife of 58 years, Amelia Tereso Joao of Chicopee; 4 loving children, Luis Rosario and his wife Dalia of Chicopee, Manny Tereso and Beatriz Santiago of Chicopee; Maria F. Carvalho and her husband Luis of Chicopee and Maria Manuela Rosario of South Hadley; his cherished grandchildren, Jason, Alex, Emily Rosario, Nathan, Matthew, Justin Carvalho and Tiago Tereso and his brother Balbino Francisco of Portugal. He is predeceased by 7 siblings. He also leaves his brother-in-laws Jose Ferreira and Isabel, Antonio Tereso and Rosalina, Antonio Lucio and his sister-in-law Maria Tereso and Hilario. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019 from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at the Grise` Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, Feb. 25, 2019 at 10:00 AM in the Grise` Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Assumption Church at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
