Obituary

TEWKSBURY: Mary T. (Guthrie) Ahern, age 69, a resident of Tewksbury for 14 years, died Monday, December 26, 2005 at her home.
She was the wife of Laborer’s Union Local # 223 retiree Jeremiah F. Ahern, with whom she celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on August 27th.
Born in County Clare, Ireland on September 13, 1936, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Carkill) Guthrie.
Mrs. Ahern was raised and educated in Ireland.
In the late 1950’s she emigrated to Somerville.
Prior to moving to Tewksbury in 1991, she lived in Everett and Malden.
Mrs. Ahern was a communicant of St. William’s Church of Tewksbury, where she served as a Eucharistic minister and was a member of the Ladies Sodality.
She previously attended St. Theresa’s Church of Everett and was past president of the Ladies Sodality.
Mrs. Ahern and her husband were members of the Irish Social Club of West Roxbury and Arlington.
She enjoyed walking, traveling, cooking and dancing.
Mrs. Ahern will lovingly be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children; Massachusetts State Police Trooper Michael A. Ahern, Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority Inspector Jeremiah P. Ahern of Malden and Malden Police Officer Patricia A. Bailey and her fiancé John Amirault both of Tewksbury; two grandchildren; Shauna and Matthew Bailey both of Tewksbury; her siblings; Susan Devereaux of Braintree, Michael Guthrie and Ann McHugh both of England, Kathleen Cahir, Christy Guthrie, Patrick Guthrie, Thomas Guthrie, Teresa Carkill and Dennis Guthrie all of Ireland; also many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ahern was the sister of the late Joseph and Margaret Guthrie.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, December 29th from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Her funeral will be held on Friday, December 30th at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
