Sheila M. (Swain) Lopes, 75, of Acushnet passed away Sunday February 17, 2019 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of Donald P. Lopes.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Capt. Robert J. and Helen F. (Goss) Swain, she lived in Acushnet since 1973. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School.
Sheila was formerly employed as a telephone operator for Verizon until her retirement.
She enjoyed reading and visiting Twin Rivers Casino.
She is survived by her husband Donald; her children, Cherie Davignon of Acushnet and Mark Lopes of Fairhaven; her siblings, Douglas Swain of New Bedford and Anne Swain of Fairhaven; three grandchildren, Hayden, Ellen, and Jack Davignon; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Lynn-Marie Lopes, mother-in-law of the late Albert Davignon; and sister of the late Mary Murphy, Patricia Dion, Robert, Gerard, Paul, and Donald Swain.
