Dorothy “Dot” O’Scott, 78, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, February 15, 2019, at Navicent Health in Macon, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Monday, February 18, 2019, at Central United Methodist Church in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Wright and the Rev. B.J. Funk officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. O’Scott was born December 14, 1940, in Pearson, Georgia, to the late James Russell & Rhoda Frances Giddens Hodges. She was a 1959 graduate of Coffee County High School. She married Dave O’Scott the night she graduated from high school. They lived in Douglas and Macon before moving to Albany. She worked for Congressman Dawson Mathis while living in Albany. She moved to Fitzgerald in 1976 and kept children in her home. Several years later, she graduated from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College with her degree in nursing. She began what would be a 25-year career as a Registered Nurse at Dorminy Medical Center. She worked the floor and was named head nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. At the time of her retirement, she was the Employee Health & Infection Control Director. She would go on to work as weekend supervisor for Pruitt Health nursing homes, until her health prevented her from working in August 2018. She loved to watch her grandson Ethan in all his sporting events including football, baseball, and wrestling. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and UMW Circle #4.
She is survived by her son, Carl O’Scott of Fitzgerald; daughter and son-in-law, Amy & Billy Shiver of Ben Hill County; grandchildren: Ethan Shiver, Mitch & Mallory Shiver, and Emily Shiver; three great-grandchildren: Lili, Knox, and River; and a sister, Durelle Patterson of Aurora, Colorado. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dave O’Scott; a son, Patrick O’Scott; a granddaughter, Haley Shiver; a sister, Rebecca Smith; and a brother, Carl Hodges.
