Larry P. Harper, 74, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Thursday, February 14, 2019, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Sunday, February 17, 2019, at the Ocilla Baptist Church, in Ocilla, Georgia, with the Rev. Billy Stephens and the Rev. Joey Whitley officiating. Interment will follow in the Brushy Creek Cemetery, in Irwin County, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.
Mr. Harper was born January 7, 1945, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late Theo & Minnie Morris Harper. He lived in the community all of his life and graduated from Irwin County High School in 1963 and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Mr. Harper served his country honorably in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Germany. He was a Paralegal with Clauye McCranie and was a County Commissioner for 14 years. He also served on the Irwin County Hospital Board and the Ocilla Irwin County Industrial Development Authority. Mr. Harper enjoyed playing golf, spending time with his grandchildren and watching Westerns. He was a member of the Ocilla Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Deena Harper of Ocilla; children: Phil & Julie Harper of Ft. Worth, Texas, Marcus Harper and fiancé Molly Griner of Savannah, Blaire Benson of Tifton and Anna & Josh Griffin of Irwinville; grandchildren: Colby Harper, Trevor Harper, Tyler Harper, Katelynn Benson and Peri Griffin; and two sisters: Faye Paulk of Ocilla and Melba Harper Metts & Bobby of Enigma. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Preston Harper, Jr.
