Doctor Ligor Gjoka a retired pediatrician and cardiologist, died peacefully, Wednesday, February 13 at home with family by his side. He was 80 years old. He was beloved and respected by his family, patients, friends, and colleagues for a life defined by deep intelligence, compassion, integrity and great sense of humor.
Doctor Ligor Gjoka’s career reflected a relentless quest to improve health care outcomes of every single patient in his care. Over a 38 year period, he made significant contributions as a physician, Hospital Director in the City of Erseke and Leskovik and Chief Medical Officer in District of Kolonje, Albania which included building medical clinic and expanding Erseka’s hospital, philanthropic leadership and generosity.
Ligor was distinguished by his personal life as well as his medical career. He possessed quiet empathy and was valued as a deeply thoughtful mentor and advisor to many colleagues and friends. After relocation to US, Doctor Ligor worked for over 10 years as patient monitoring at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston MA.
Ligor was born in Shtike Erseke, Albania on May 5, 1938, and was the son of late Mina and Kostandina Gjoka, and brother of late Jorgji Gjoka, Rista Gjoka Nini, Vasilika Gjoka Dhimitri and Jani Gjoka. He was raised and educated in Albania . He graduated as MD from University of Tirana Albania College of Medicine in 1962. He loved the most his family and friends, he loved being a doctor and helping people in need his entire life
He is survived by his wife Lirika Gjoka, daughter Alketa Keti Gjoka and son Minella Gjoka and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting Hours will be held at Dello Russo Funneral Home at 306 Main Street in Medford MA on Sunday February 17 from 2- 6 PM. Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home on Monday, February 18 at 1 PM, concluding with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
