Madeleine Y. (Payant) Rogissart, 91, of New Bedford died February 12, 2019 at home after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late Marcel Rogissart, Jr., with whom she shared 51 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Armand and Valeda (Alix) Payant she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She graduated from St. Anthony Grammar and High School in 1946. She worked in the meat department at Fernandes Supermarket and retired from Sacred Heart Nursing Home as a purchasing agent for the main kitchen.
Mrs. Rogissart was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church where she was in the choir and became a Eucharistic Minister at the church until the church closed. She gave communion at St. Luke's Hospital for many years and at St. Anthony of Padua Church where she was a communicant.
She was a member of A.C.A., a French organization and St. Mary's Golden Agers in Fairhaven.
She is survived by six children, three sons, Paul Rogissart and his wife Jeannine of Ft. Worth, TX, Normand Rogissart of Grand Prairie, TX and MSgt David Rogissart and his wife Claudia of Plymouth, MA; three daughters, Muriel Shures and her husband Thomas of Beavercreek, OH, Claudette Deneault and her husband Kenneth of Acushnet, and Diane Insley and her husband David of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Rita Cardoza of Easton and Lucille Breton of Fairhaven; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Roger Payant, Albert Payant, Henri Payant, Yvette Toussaint, Andrea Roy, Rolande Chagnon and Alice Gelinas.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church. Burial will be Friday at 2:30 PM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours are omitted.
