Mary A. (Azevedo) Norberto, age 83, of Norton, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 9, 2019.
Born in Madeira Island, Portugal on October 10, 1935, she was a loving daughter of the late Manuel and Jesuina (DeJesus) Azevedo.
Mary spent her early childhood living in Madeira Island. She moved to the United States at the age of ten, settling in Norton where she had made her home for the past seventy-three years. She was educated in both Portugal and Norton.
Prior to retiring, Mrs. Norberto had been employed as a solderer for over thirty years at W.E. Richards in Attleboro.
Mary was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Norton. She loved spending time with her adoring family and her hobbies included gardening, sewing, cooking and a special love for nature. She enjoyed feeding the birds that frequented her home and making delicious homemade jelly from the grapes she grew in her yard.
She is survived by her devoted children: Eugene J. Norberto of Norton and Judy A. (Norberto) Downey of Attleboro. She was the cherished grandmother of Stephanie, Allison and Andrew Downey of Attleboro and Marissa and Jake Norberto of Taunton. She was the dear sister of Edward Azevedo of Florida and the late Joseph Azevedo. She was the former wife of the late Vasco Norberto and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Saturday, February 16th at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 1 Power Street, Norton. Burial will be private and visiting hours have been omitted.
