Louise Marion Copley, life-long resident of Canton, MA passed away February 2, 2019 in Norwood, MA at 88 years of age. Born in Canton as the last of five children, Louise spent much of her childhood on the Copley Turkey Farm. While attending Canton High School, she played on the field hockey team, of which she became captain. After graduating from high school, she attended Mount Ida. However, she was undecided in career path until she was advised by the local dentist to pursue dental hygiene. Her interest piqued, Louise received training and an Associates Degree from Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene. She spent her young adult life doing work in which she found great enjoyment, as well as pursuing hobbies such as hunting, fishing, and gardening. Her excelling sportsmanship, in fact, earned her a place on the rifle team of the Sharon Fish and Game Club. Of this very team she would become the first female captain. However, according to Louise, she received the position because “no one else wanted it.” It was on the rifle team that she first met her quiet, yet beloved husband, Eino Gronroos. Together, they raised two children, John (Eric) and Lisa. Every summer, Louise would sell tomatoes at a roadside farm stand she would set up. She proudly called this farm stand Frog Island Farms, and was fond of not only the revenue it yielded to contribute to the taxes, but also how it highlighted the fact that she had a farm on an island, a rather unusual occurrence in the middle of a busy town. However, Louise did not spend all her time in the garden. She also spent 60 years volunteering her time teaching the Bible as a source of comfort, wisdom, and hope to others as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The charm, wit, wisdom, and always entertaining stories of her youth will be missed immensely. Yes, the dungaree-clad, gardening, and advice-giving grandmother of four, mother of two, wife of one, and friend of many will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew her. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton on Friday, February 8th from 3-7 pm. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 23rd, 2019 at 2:00 P.M at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 638 Pearl Street, Stoughton, MA.
