Geraldine M. Hurney, a lifelong resident of Woburn passed away sudden and unexpectedly Saturday, February 2, 2019, at the age of 63. "Gerri" as she was affectionately known to friends and family, was the beloved wife for over 18 years of Michael J. Hurney. Born in Woburn, Gerri was one of four daughters of the late Paul L. and Rita P. (Bergin) Cogan.
Gerri was raised and educated in Woburn and was a 1973 graduate of Woburn High School. Following high school Gerri attended The Massachusetts College of Pharmacy where she earned and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacology. Gerri worked for many years as a Registered Pharmacist and in more recent years she worked as the Director of Recreation at the Woburn Nursing Center where she was much loved by the residents she had the honor of working with and caring for. In her leisure time, Gerri enjoyed painting, working on arts and crafts, and antiquing with her husband Michael. She was also an avid sports fan and loved baseball and hockey, especially her Boston Bruins.
In addition to her beloved husband Michael, Gerri is survived by her cherished sisters; Rita Masotta and her husband John of Woburn, Maureen Lynch and her husband Edward of Seabrook, NH, Karen Hriniak and her husband Walter of North Andover. She was the sister-in-law of Richard P. Hurney and his wife Connie of VA, Peter F. Hurney and his wife Gerilyn of CA, and James M. Hurney of GA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Friday, February 8th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Funeral Home will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Gerri’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
