Obituary

Whitman – Nancy E. (Blute) Hinkley 77, died Saturday February 2 in her Whitman home, surrounded by her loving family, after a brave five year battle with breast cancer. She was the beloved wife of sixty years to William Hinkley.

Born in Brockton and raised in Whitman, she was the daughter of the late Burton and Mary (Fitzsimmons) Blute and was a graduate of Archbishop Williams High School.

Nancy was a lifelong and active member of the Whitman community, where she and her husband Bill had met in the “5th Grade” and after marrying remained in Whitman to raise their three children. Before retiring, she also had worked many years and with numerous children as a kindergarten aide in the Whitman school system.

She enjoyed sports and boating and was avid Red Sox fan, but her greatest joy was her spending time with her family and following the countless sporting events of her husband’s teams as he coached, and her children and grandchildren as they played.

In addition to her husband Bill she is survived by her children Karen Mulligan of Weymouth, Peter Hinkley and his wife Tricia of Whitman and Joseph Hinkley and his wife Rhonda of Whitman, her sister Beverly Hounsell and her husband Frank of CT and her sisters-in-law Judy Kimbal and Janet Hinkley both of NH. She is also survived by her grandchildren, whom she adored, Michael and his wife Jenn, Thomas, Beth, Brittany, Patrick and Adam as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Richard Blute and his wife Carol.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday February 7 from 3:00-7:00 with a service to follow at 7:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman.
