NATICK: Emery William Irwin, of Natick, 80, died Saturday, January 26, 2019, surrounded by his devoted family.
He was the son of the late William E. “Bill” Irwin, Sr. and Grace M. (Shaut) Irwin.
Emery is the beloved husband of 58 years to Priscilla R. (Hatch) Irwin. He is the cherished father of Nancy Hooley and her husband Stephen of Celebration, FL and Michele Landurand and her husband Michael of Natick.
“Gumpa”, with his big heart and kind ways, is dearly loved by his grandchildren William, Stephen and his wife Kimberley and Ryan Hooley and Trevor, Tyler and Taylor Landurand. He is predeceased by his brothers Richard Irwin and Donald Irwin and is the beloved brother and friend to Thomas Irwin, his wife Carol, his niece Donna and nephews Tom and Joe and childhood pal, Al Witzell.
Emery was born in Albany, NY in 1938 and was raised in Wayland. He graduated from Wayland High School in 1957. Emery met the love of his life, Priscilla, at the Community United Methodist Church while in the 7th grade. They were married in 1960. He was a devoted family man, a wonderful husband and patient and loving father to Nancy & Missy.
Emery served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army National Guard for 6 years. After graduation from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1960, Emery began his career as a
Construction Project Manager at the Joseph Bennett, Bryant and Wolfe construction companies. Emery enjoyed managing large construction jobs, a skill which became his greatest hobby, building and fixing anything.
Emery, a proud Eagle Scout, was a true and loyal friend. He loved traveling, camping, fishing, snow storms, model trains, building things, Patriots and ND football, and especially helping others. Time with his family and friends was his greatest joy; he was truly a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2019 from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rte. 30), Wayland, MA 01778.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in the Irwin family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland.
