Lucy Ovoian Goshgarian, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother passed away at the Armenian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Boston on January 26, 2019.
Lucy was born in 1928 in Watertown, MA to Koren and Margaret [Zakarian] Ovoian. She lived and attended schools there until she married Jack Goshgarian in 1947. After several years they built a home in Carlisle, MA where they lived for more than 30 years, raising their daughters and enjoying the community. Lucy was a charter member of the Carlisle Garden Club and volunteered at the polls on election days, believing in the importance of civic duty. She was an extremely accomplished seamstress and an excellent cook, skills she instilled in her daughters. She went on to a career as a bookkeeper and then corporate recruiter for the technology industry. She had an artistic flair and enjoyed playing bridge and golf. She and Jack were wonderful dancers and often were the first on the dance floor at weddings and parties. In later years Lucy and Jack enjoyed summers on Cape Cod and winters in Bradenton FL, amassing a large and close circle of friends in both places.
Lucy honored her roots and was fiercely devoted to her parents and nieces and nephews. She and Jack maintained regular contact and visits with their families in Watertown, passing their unique cultural heritage on to their daughters.
Lucy was predeceased by her parents and husband. She leaves her daughters, Joan Goshgarian, Diane Bourque [Ronald], Susan McGrew [Wallace] and Paula Smith [Frank]; her grandchildren John Bourque, Candice Dowling, Rachael Foster, Sarah Dole, Emily McGrew, Anna Jermakowicz, and Chelsea McLeod; and five great grandchildren.
A service honoring her life will take place on Wednesday, January 30 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. James Armenian Church, 465 Mt Auburn St, Watertown, MA. Burial is private.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 to support research to terminate this debilitating disease or to the Armenian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 431 Pond Street, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 in appreciation for the extraordinary and sustained care the staff extended to her.
