Peggy Rowell Bess, 63, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Saturday, January 26, 2019, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Monday, January 28, 2019, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, with the Rev. Rex Johnson and the Rev. Jeremy Cox officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Bess was born February 17, 1955, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Waldo & Jessie Mae Goff Rowell. She was a 1973 graduate of Irwin County High School. She worked for the Irwin County Board of Education before beginning her career as a dental assistant. She mostly worked with Dr. Maris and later worked with Dr. Hobby before her health declined. She dearly loved her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Larry Bess of Ocilla; children and their spouses: Jason Bess & Lauren of Flowery Branch and Jessica Bess Barrios & Sam of Ocilla; grandchildren: Emmy Bess, Ellen Cate Bess, Lauren Ramsay Bess, Hannah Barrios, and Kellan Barrios; sisters and brothers-in-law: Vera Mae & Herman Smith of Alma, Mattie Young of Wray, Lene Rowell of Douglas, Lizzy & Carroll Young of Wray, and Jessie Lee & Hershell Jones of Douglas as well as a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Melba Grace Rowell and a sister Deborah Conner.
