Joan M. (Coleman) Hansen, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 85 years of age.
Joan was born in Boston on May 8, 1933, a daughter of the late Patrick J. Coleman and Mary (McCarthy) Coleman. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1951. Joan worked as an Aide in the Boston Public School system at the Harvard Kent School in Charlestown when it was first built in 1972 and then worked at the Edwards Middle School as an Aide before becoming the Librarian at the school. She retired following 19 years of dedicated service to the Boston Public School system.
Joan is the beloved wife of 64 years to the late Henry C. Hansen Jr. She is the devoted mother of Henry Hansen and his wife Fran of Billerica, Beverly Hansen of Charlestown, William Hansen and his wife Patricia of Medford, Joan Hansen-Smith of Charlestown and David Hansen of Charlestown. She is the loving Nana to her 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of Theresa McLaughlin of Charlestown and the late John Coleman, Patrick Coleman, Francis "Bud" Coleman, Phil Coleman, Sheila Connolly, and Mary "Sis" Coleman.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joan's Funeral on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Her visiting hours will be on Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
