Obituary

Alice J. (Knowles) Tremblay-Frates, 82, of New Bedford died Wednesday, January 23, 2019 after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Albert "Hap" Frates.

Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Frank H. and Alice (Macedo) Knowles, she lived in New Bedford and Wareham for most of her life.

Alice was formerly employed by Titleist for many years until her retirement. She was also formerly employed by the Whaling City Golf Course for many years.

She volunteered for the Red Cross in New Bedford and for the soup kitchen at St. Patrick's Church in Wareham.

Alice enjoyed shopping and loved a bargain. She also enjoyed singing, cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children; son, Scott Tremblay and his wife Danielle; daughter, Kathy Fitzmaurice; daughter-in-law, Donna Tremblay; five grandchildren, Antonio and his wife Sarah, Jenna, Alexandra, Abigail, and Aiden; and three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, and Ashton. She is also survived by her stepson, Jack Frates and his daughters, Kelly Thomas and Kicia Furtado and their families.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Arthur Tremblay; her son, Arthur Tremblay, Jr.; and her stepdaughter-in-law, Gerri Frates.

Her Funeral will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 9 AM. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 4-7 PM.
