Mary C. (Ramos) Soares, 95, of New Port Richey, Florida, formerly of New Bedford, passed away Monday January 21, 2019. She was the wife of the late John A. Soares.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Manuel J. and Carolina M. (Santos) Ramos, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life before moving to Florida several years ago.
Mrs. Soares was formerly employed as a paraprofessional for the New Bedford Public School Department for over 30 years until her retirement.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. She was a member of the St. Martin de Porres Guild, the OLOA Seniors Club, and the Cape Verdean Woman’s Social Club.
She was the mother of Janice M. Raether and her husband Edward of Florida, Anthony J. Soares, Sr. and his wife Emilda of Virginia, and Dennis Soares and his wife Annie of Connecticut; she was also a second mother to Susan Ramos of New Bedford; and a sister of Elizabeth C. Burgo of Dartmouth, Raymond M. Ramos and his wife Lillian, and Dorothy A. Gomes, all of New Bedford. She is survived by her former daughter-in-law, Maria Soares of New Bedford; five grandchildren, Derrick, Desiree, Anthony, Dawna, and Dyana; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Shelley Soares, and siblings Joseph M. Ramos, Caesar M. Ramos, Manuel J. Ramos, Jr., John M. Ramos, Louis M. Ramos, and Kathleen A. Lopes.
Her Funeral will be held on Saturday January 26, 2019 at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.
